LEADING PACK

It was a walk in the park for these four golfers — (l-r) Sanjay Choudhury (of J Thomas & Co, Div I winners), Raghav Bajoria (of McLeod Russel, finished fourth), Lakshman ‘Bunny’ Singh (of Williamson Magor ‘A’, overall champs) and Kulvin Suri (of TISCO ‘A’, Div I runner-up).

THE WINNERS

Williamson Magor ‘A’ represented by Aditya Khaitan, J. Gohain, Sunny Uthup and Lakshman Singh yet again lifted the title of The Telegraph Cup Golf (presented by JIS Group) with 218. The Telegraph Challenge Cup was won by South India Projects at 209.

YOUNG GUN

“I was a healthy fellow who would come to the club just to eat and then I got hooked to golf. Thanks to the low attendance policy at Bhawanipur College, I got a lot of time on the golf course. The game is addictive and nothing drives me more than the feeling of having scored better the next day,” said Vansh Nagar, 22, who’s looking forward to turning pro in the next two years. Vansh, who played for Omkar Construction, has been participating in the Challenge Cup for the last two years.

MR PRESIDENT

Meet the incumbent president of the Indian Golf Union — Jaydeep Chitlangia. The golfer, who grew up with mentors like Lakshman Singh, Rajeev Mohta, Gangesh Khaitan and Ashok Malik, participated in the Challenge Cup.

5 MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENTS

1. On Tee No 1, with a sizeable crowd watching, hitting a cold top, which doesn’t reach the ladies tee.

2. Having your ball in a bunker with a few people watching and after four failed attempts to get the ball out, being asked by one of the bystanders, “Is it dead yet, sir?”

3. Hitting a shot from the edge of a waterbody and while missing the ball, finding yourself in the water.

4. Missing a putt at a length where a hen could lay an egg further.

5. Voted the MOST embarrassing — pretending to help search for your opponent’s ball with him when he announces that he’s found his ball and you are actually standing on it.

BOO HOO

The biggest insult a golfer can get is: “Do you always take this long over a ball or were you saying a prayer?” Even god sometimes does not help!

LONESOME TWOSOME

These two golfers stood out on the course for their different strokes. If one guy had a problem with his stomach, the other couldn’t play without a golf cart… luckily none left their mark on the course! Just kidding!

COOL COMBOS

While father-son duo Stuart and Roger Binny are making all the news in cricket, Merchant’s Cup has its own story — one brother and two father-son combos… that we know of! Pairs Peter and Nathan Remedios, the father-son golfing duo from J. Reynold & Co, Lakshman ‘Bunny’ Singh and son Ranjit and Jayanta Gohain and his brother Joon meant two of a kind.
