The trailer of Manoj Bajpayee-starrer The Fable, the only Indian entry at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, came out on Tuesday night.

Competing in the Encounters segment at the Berlinale, the Raam Reddy directorial is about the journey of Dev, played by Manoj, who tries his best to preserve trees in the Himalayas where he grew up.

Dev vows to save trees after discovering that a group is burning down trees in the region. But the serene beauty is soon ravaged by forest fires that seem to engulf the hills as well as Bajpayee’s mind.

“It’s about a family, who looked just like us,” a voiceover opens the video, introducing Dev’s family against the backdrop of the Himalayas. Sporting a beard and a moustache, Manoj’s character narrates stories to his children and meditates by himself in the dark at night.

Featuring an ensemble cast including Deepak Dobriyal, Priyanka Bose, Tillotama Shome, Hiral Sidhu and child actor Awan Pookot, The Fable is a story of despair in the face of bigger forces of nature as well as society.

“Enjoy the exclusive trailer premiere of “The Fable“ by Raam Reddy. Screening in the 2024 Berlinale Encounters programme,” mentions the official page of the Berlin Film Festival alongside the trailer.

Reddy, who received critical acclaim in 2015 for his debut film Thithi, is awaiting the premiere of The Fable at the Berlinale, slated to be held from February 15 to 25,, alongside 14 other international titles.
