At The Active Calcuttan by Love Thyself held on February 12 at Magma House on Park Street, fitness stalwarts around the city showcased their expertise through workshops, stalls, seminars and competitions. No wonder it packed in a lot of adrenaline, FK (fitness knowledge, silly!) and fun.

Bodybuilders from the Bodyline Team Athletes (BTA) lined up to promote the BTA initiative, an annual athlete sponsorship programme for talented and deserving fitness athletes and bodybuilders from West Bengal, guided and nurtured by Bodyline Sports and Karma Fitness Studio.

Sixteen karate fighters from across Bengal fought it out for the Shivaji Cup, organised by Shivaji Ganguly’s Academy: Mind and Body. The academy also hosted a self-defence workshop to highlight the use of regular objects, and a nutrition seminar to bust myths about high-protein-low-carb diet for athletes.

Grappling and fencing made for quite a show as 70 participants competed for the Kolkata Grappling Open 2017 organised by Alpha Omega Combat Sports, while 16 entered the fray for the Bengal Fencing Association championship.

“The event was quite a success for its first edition — we had 1,100 people walking in to watch. We plan to do at least one every four months at various locations and would want to involve more people, more sports and activities. The idea is to spread fitness awareness in Calcutta, keeping in mind the variety of options one has access to locally. Love Thyself is an initiative to do just that... be it sports, fitness, nutrition, wellness and adventure travel,” said Rahul Roy, founder, Love Thyself.
