Actor Sidharth Malhotra on Monday said that playing Captain Vikram Batra in Shershaah was “one of the most rewarding experiences of his career” in a note he penned to mark three years of the Vishnuvardhan-directed biographical war drama.

“Three years since Shershaah. Portraying Captain Vikram Batra was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career, bringing to life the story of a legendary hero honored with the Special Jury Award at the 69th National Film Awards,” wrote Sidharth on Instagram, sharing behind-the-scenes pictures featuring the director, his co-star Kiara Advani and Batra’s parents, GL Batra and Kamal Batra.

Released theatrically on August 12, 2021, Shershaah is based on the life of Captain Vikram Batra, killed in action during the 1999 Kargil War between India and Pakistan.

Batra was awarded the highest gallantry award Param Vir Chakra posthumously in 1999.

Backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film stars Sidharth in a dual role as Vikram Batra and his twin brother Vishal, with Kiara playing Vikram’s love interest Dimple Cheema.

At the 69th National Film Awards in 2023, Shershaah won the Special Jury Award.

The film also marked the beginning of Sidharth and Kiara’s love story. They fell for each other on the sets of the film and later tied the knot in Jaisalmer on February 7, 2023, after nearly two years of dating.

On the work front, Sidharth was last seen in Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha’s action thriller Yodha.

Kiara will next appear in S. Shankar’s Telugu film Game Changer alongside Ram Charan. Additionally, the actress is set to star in Yash Raj Films’ spy universe action thriller War 2. Kiara has also been roped in for Farhan Akhtar’s upcoming actioner Don 3.
