As if two weren’t enough, now there’s one more Byomkesh Bakshi crying for attention.
After Prosenjit was crowned the Bengali sleuth for Rituparno Ghosh and Abir Chatterjee for Anjan Dutt, TV actor Subhrajit Datta has been picked by Swapan Ghoshal for his Byomkesh film Magno Mainak.
Subhrajit, a regular in ETV mega serial Sonar Harin and Zee Bangla’s Ei Ghar Ei Sansar and Sukh, chucked his schoolteacher’s job three years back to become an actor.
“It’s a great feeling as I have grown up reading Feluda, Tenyda, Professor Shonku and Byomkesh Bakshi.... Bumbada (Prosenjit) is a very senior actor and Abir is my relative. We will approach the character from our own perspectives,” says the Bagbazar boy, who wants to steer clear of “silly roles in mindless potboilers”.
“I chose Subhrajit because he fits Byomkesh as described by Sharadindu Bandopadhyay. He has very sharp features and expressive eyes,” said director Ghoshal, who had made Mahakal with Prosenjit last year. Sohini Pal plays Sukumari in the film. TV girl Sayantani Ghosh has a role too.
Magno Mainak goes on the floors on May 25.
