Films are pouring in on Amitabha Bhattacharya’s platter. Though his recent release Tollywood Focus co-starring Swastika Mukherjee fizzled out in a week, Amitabha is holding his chin up.

The lanky youth has more than eight films in the pipeline. And the one he is most excited about is Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s Ami Yasin Aar Amar Madhubala, where he plays one of the three main characters.

“The best thing is that I have very contrasting roles in the eight films. And working with Buddhada has taught me a lot. I play a village boy Yasin, who settles in Calcutta along with Dilip (Prosenjit), in Ami Yasin...,” says Amitabha, who has finished shooting for Atanu Bose’s Shedin Dujone. He plays a singer opposite newcomer Koel in the film.

In Kamal Roy’s Juti, he is a small-time goon-turned-nice-guy. In Manoj Michigan’s Hello Kolkata, where there’s a crowd of popular faces, Amitabha plays Pratik, a call centre employee and Swastika’s alcoholic husband.

“I have also finished shooting for Tapas Majumdar’s Eka Eka opposite Anjana Basu and a very different film, Ranga Mati, by Kanaj Das. Ranga Mati deals with illiteracy and witchcraft in villages. I am hopeful that the film will help raise awareness among the rural people.” Amitabha is now busy playing a cop in Tutul Banerjee’s Bakul.

Up next is Gobindo Halder’s Tumi Kar opposite Rimjhim Gupta. “There are a couple of offers more that I am keen on signing but I have decided to work on one film at a time,” adds Amitabha.
