Despite a string of films in a short career span, Rahul has been looking for roles that would give him real creative satisfaction. No wonder a call from Uro Chithi maker Kamaleshwar Mukherji made his day. “Kamaleshwarda asked me to visit him at his office. I was in for a surprise because as soon as I entered, I saw the late Anil Chatterjee’s photograph alongside mine! Kamaleshwarda told me that I look exactly like him and even our hairstyles match! He then told me that I would be playing Anil Chatterjee in his film on the life and relationships of Ritwik Ghatak (starring Saswata Chatterjee and Ananya Chatterjee),” said Rahul, who has already shot a portion of Meghe Dhaka Tara (Anil Chatterjee had played Supriya Chowdhury’s brother in the 1960 classic directed by Ghatak) in the film-within-the-film sequence on set created in Bantala. “It’s very interesting for me because when I was just five years old I had acted in a play titled Proshongo Rugno Shilpa and Anil Chatterjee had come on stage to give away an award to me. I still have that certificate. I feel he was a really underrated actor of his time. I loved him in Meghe Dhaka Tara and Mahanagar. It was quite uncanny playing him in the film-within-the-film sequence,” smiled Rahul.
