QUICK FIX

Read more below

The Telegraph Online Published 10.07.10, 12:00 AM

Think you know your stars from South Africa? Name them now and prove how clued into the cup you are

1. The man who almost single-handedly — or ‘double-footedly’ — took his team to the semis and then took the fight to the enemy with a stunning strike. A Man U discard in the EPL, a far bigger hero than Rooney in the Cup. 2. The Telegraph’s Cup columnist Keir Radnedge has picked him as a star of the tourney. One number 10 in the Cup who has done justice to his jersey (along with one of his neighbours here). Will he win it for his team?
3. His team’s biggest stars failed to burn bright but this Manchester City misfit left the Cup with reputation enhanced. He even got the samba drums going in the quarters with a cool finish, but had to end the match in tears. 4. Thirty yards from goal, close to the left touchline, from a seemingly harmless position, he let fly a thunderbolt. They call it the wonder strike. They call him Gio. He may not always grab headlines, but he does lead the way.
5. Whatever he did in the last couple of weeks made news. Even a video of his picking his nose and then putting his finger in his mouth (eeewww!) on YouTube. Maradona began the Cup as its most-talked-about coach, this man won the crown. 6. Some players shine brightest in their national colours. For Bayern Munich, this forward has hardly been hot this season but when it comes to the Cup he becomes a real goal machine. No wonder he’s two strikes shy of the all-time Cup record.
7. Born where Kites babe Barbara Mori was born, this man made two brilliant saves in a penalty shootout to help his team progress. But then his run ended against a team luckier and pluckier than his. 8. The team’s star marksman may be the one in the spotlight but this man has been making the moves that matter for his country. On the strength of his last two displays, this Barcelona midfielder can walk into any team.
9.Family ties took on a whole new meaning in one team dugout with a father-in-law and a son-in-law bonding big time. One of them is known to many as the god of football, the other is nicknamed Kun after a Japanese anime character. 10. In his 89 appearances for Spain, he has scored only three goals but that third goal sent his team to their first-ever World Cup final. Officially a central defender, he has been playing for Barcelona from 1999!
