What Suchitra Sen Said After Watching Rituparno Ghosh's Tagore Tale - Hear It From Raima Sen! (RAIMA TOLD T2) Published 15.07.11, 12:00 AM

I could never get my grandmother (Suchitra Sen) down to watching any of my films. Not even Chokher Bali! But she really wanted to see Noukadubi because she had heard a lot about it from her relatives.

I had gone to the US Banga Sammelan recently and there they made me a DVD of Noukadubi, which I passed on to my grandmom. She watched it and she loved it. She asked me to tell Rituparno how much she loved the film. She thinks he is a marvellous, world-class director! Rituda said, ‘She’s made my day!’ Grandmom thought Riya was extremely good in the film. “Riyake khub mishti legechhe,” she said. And she had tears in her eyes watching the scene where I am in the sickbed. She said I looked dignified and beautiful... And now she wants to see my other movies! I am going to get her all the good ones... like Anuranan and The Japanese Wife.

I was deeply touched by her (Suchitra Sen) words. Eta amar boro prapti... She’s a legend after all. I told Raima to convey my pronam to her. She has also liked Jisshu’s (Sengupta) work in Noukadubi. I told Jisshu, ‘Suchitra Sen has liked your work’, and he just couldn’t believe it! He is ecstatic.
