Fresh pair: Ankush and Shrabanti

Even as the Dev-Koel Mallick-starrer Paglu goes strong at the box office, director Rajib Kumar is getting back to work without wasting anymore time.

Rajib’s next film, Idiot, will star Ankush, who debuted as a leading man in Kellafate, and wife Shrabanti. The third-most important role in Idiot will be played by either Suniel Shetty or Aditya Pancholi.

“We had sent the script of Idiot across to Suniel Shetty, but he wanted some changes which I am not too keen to make. Let’s see... we will finalise either him or Aditya Pancholi soon,” said Rajib.

But why Ankush when there’s Dev, Jeet and Soham?

“Because I liked his work in Kellafate. Ankush is very good-looking. Besides, I wanted to cast a new hero opposite Shrabanti. As a director, I want to try different actors. Ankush has got it in him and this film will put him in a different league,” said a confident Rajib.

Idiot revolves around a rich girl and a poor boy who fall in love, but the girl’s super rich brother — for which Rajib is trying for Shetty and Pancholi — plays spoilsport.

Idiot will be shot in Hyderabad and Calcutta. Produced by Ashok Dhanuka, the film goes on the floors on Monday.

But before Idiot started taking shape, Rajib was planning to do Romeo with Shrabanti and Soham in the lead. The project has been put on the back burner for now.

“Soham has lost a lot of weight for Le Halwa Le and for Romeo I need him to have a heavy build because most of the film is about Soham’s character being chased by a gang of goons and how he fights back. Let Soham work out and build his muscles, I will start Romeo once he is ready,” added Rajib.
