URE JAAK
Piya: This song is basically his first letter to me in the form of a song. He wrote the song keeping me in mind nearly seven-eight years ago when we used to exchange emails. He had sent me both the lyrics and the mp3 version of the song. I was quite overwhelmed when I first heard the song. I wouldn’t like to say anything more about the song since it speaks for itself (smiles)
Anupam: Piya is my muse and Ure jaak is the first song I wrote for her, in Bangalore. After work, I would come back home and write songs. At that point of time I was really homesick, and I wanted to come back to Calcutta. We connected over the Net then. This is a song of longing and maybe I wanted to connect with her. A visual of the Victoria Memorial kept playing in my mind and the phrase ‘Shwet pathorer raat’ is nothing but a reference to Victoria Memorial. Kabir Suman also likes this song.

BAWSHONTO ESHE GECHHE (MALE VERSION)
Piya: The lines ‘Ei bawshonte koyek bochhor aage/ Tomay prothom dekhechhilam aami/ Hetechhilam bhutta mather pothe/ Shei bawshonto ekhon bhishon dami…’ talk about our first meeting. Of course, no one knows the significance of ‘bhutta mather poth’. Just translate it. It means Cornfield Road (laughs out loud). So this was our private joke till now... everyone thought of it as a poetic thing. It throws up a nice imagery. I feel it is one of his best songs and it’s one of my faves.
Anupam: The song begins with spring coming into disturbed lives and by the end there is a personal touch to it. We met during spring time and would walk the streets a lot. One day after walking for nearly three hours, we ended up on Cornfield Road. I’m happy that I could create a very positive vibe through the song. It’s a song about happy memories.

PHAKA FRAME
Piya: This is my fave track by him. The song has everything, from love, Calcutta to a host of vignettes of the city… it appeals to me a lot.
Anupam: It celebrates love, the Bengali language and our city. The song is also about her. It starts off in a random manner, and then she comes into the song. It mentions College Street and she studied in Presidency College.

BOBA TUNNEL
Piya: It’s a song quite close to my heart. It’s about the fear of loss... of uncertain times in love. The words ‘boba tunnel’ signify a stretch of complete darkness... blindness and muteness, something that reflects some particularly helpless periods that we have gone through.
Anupam: It’s a very personal song. Every relationship goes through ups and downs and I started writing the song from that point. The song comes from a sense of uncertainty, with a lines that goes ‘Eto prem kachhe eshe elo na’.

EKHON ONEK RAAT
Piya: It’s a nice, happy love song. He is not known for his happy songs, although he is a very happy person (laughs)
Anupam: When people are happy, they celebrate. They don’t pen down thoughts or pick up the guitar to compose a song. One broods, reflects when alone, which is why songs end up being melancholy. This song talks about happy moments. Of course the song has a fictional element to it… the title suggests night time but at the time of writing the song, we weren’t spending nights together (laughs). Baniye lekha ektu…

TARAR MOTO
Piya: The song has a daredevil streak to it, with a line like ‘Dekhi amay ke atkaay.’ This is also a song about us. And a few lines in the song ring true, and it could accurately predict something. ‘Bhebe dekho onnyo shohor, kingba porer bochhor, buker bhetore ekhono ekhono jhor...’ We live in different cities now, and now I ask him how did he know about this.

AMAKE AMAR MOTO THAKTE DAO
Piya: It’s a very personal song and it’s great that everyone has connected with it. I heard it for the first time in Autograph.
Anupam: I wrote Amake... in May 2009 and Srijitda (Mukherji) first heard the song then. He insisted that I sing the song immediately... I hesitated since it was not ready for stage. The same day I opened for Anjan Dutt (at a gig in Bangalore) and I came up with the ‘na na na na’ section in the chorus on stage during soundcheck.
