Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Maya D’Souza seduces neighbour Jaideep Ahlawat and new-cop-in-town Vijay Varma to create a rift between them in a bid to get away with murder in Netflix’s Jaane Jaan trailer, dropped by the streamer on Wednesday.
Set in the misty hill station of Kalimpong, the two-minute-19-second-long trailer introduces Kareena’s Maya D’Souza who appears to be in an abusive relationship. Jaideep Ahlawat plays Naren, who is a neighbour of Maya and a teacher at a local school. He also turns out to be a stalker with a crush on Maya. Things get complicated when Vijay Varma’s Mumbai cop Karan shows up in Kalimpong to look for Maya’s missing and “supposedly murdered” husband.
The clip goes on to show that Karan and Naren are old friends. The new cop in town immediately asks Naren about his “hot padoshi” Maya, who is the prime suspect in his murder investigation. However, Maya puts on charm offensive to woo Karan and the duo get into a romantic relationship. But unbeknown to him, Maya is also seducing Naren to create a rift between them to get away with her crime.
The video also shows violent altercations between Kareena and an unknown man. It gives some glimpses of Naren as a martial arts expert. Backed by a sultry rendition of the Lata Mangeshkar classic Aa Jaane Jaan from the 1969 film Intaqam, the trailer shows glimpses into Maya’s early life as a pole dancer.

Based on Japanese author Keigo Higashino’s best-selling novel The Devotion of Suspect X, the film is helmed by Kahaani director Sujoy Ghosh. The official description of the trailer reads, “Every move will have to be calculated if the lines between innocence and guilt need to be blurred.”
While the original novel was told through the perspective of a cynical maths teacher who helped his neighbour cover up the murder of her husband, the Indian adaptation seems to have been re-contextualised through the eyes of the main female character.
Jaane Jaan will be streaming on Netflix from September 21.
