According to reports, this Instagram rival is attracting a few million active users every month. Though most of the users are in the West, a few tech-lovers in Calcutta are also using Mobli.

Cool factor: It plans to be the Google of images. Which means, all pictures are hashtagged, calling for a picture-rich library. After all, the company’s slogan is: “See the world through other people’s eyes.” At a glance, there are resemblances with Instagram –– following friends, giving your pictures filter treatment, etc. The focus is on subject-based tagging, which makes it possible for users to see photographs outside one’s circles. So, if a picture is hashtagged #kolkata, one can easily search for photographs anybody has uploaded with that label.

Celeb-worthy: Leonardo DiCaprio is no Mobli virgin (but he is not a regular user) and Lance Armstrong is, let’s say, a Mobli granddaddy!
