Netflix has dropped a trailer for Season 2 of Indian Matchmaking, the much-talked-about first season of which had triggered strong reactions from viewers in 2020.

Matchmaker Sima Tapadia shot to fame with her attempts to find the perfect partner for a bunch of single people who had signed up for the reality show. Much of the controversy revolved around Tapadia’s views, which she shared frankly, and the way the participants were portrayed.

Season 2 is set to stream on Netflix from August 10. Based on the one-minute-41-second-long trailer and the previous season, here is what we can expect to see.

Sima Tapadia as the old-school matchmaker

Dubbed “Sima Aunty” by the internet, Mumbai-based matchmaker Sima Taparia is one of the focal points of the show. She embodies all that comes to mind when one hears the words ‘arranged marriage’.

In the first season, we saw her seemingly archaic method of keeping track of her clients and matching them. While promising to find partners for the singles appearing on the show, Taparia failed to find suitable matches for any of the contestants in Season 1.

She makes her big return in Season 2. From the trailer, it appears that she continues to fault the singles for not being able to make any of the matches click. She claims that the singles are “too picky” and finding a partner involves adjustments. Looks like Taparia is going to display the same approach and mentality that made us either love or hate her.

Faces from Season 1

The trailer shows a bunch of familiar faces from the first season. This includes Houston-based attorney Aparna Shewakramani, Mumbai-based jeweller Pradhyuman Maloo and New Jersey-based event planner Nadia Christina Jagessar. It is unclear if any of the other Season 1 participants would appear in the new season.

We do see a bunch of new single people as well. Taparia says that some of the participants are old clients who are yet to find love. This does not bode well for the singles turning up on the show.

High expectations from potential partners

All through the first season, Taparia kept telling her clients that they have to lower their expectations when looking for a partner in an arranged marriage setup. This message does not seem to be appreciated by the singles appearing in Indian Matchmaking Season 2 as well.

Taparia looks stunned at some of the specific qualities that the participants are looking for in their partner.

And her advice to her clients remains the same: “You have to adjust a little, then life becomes beautiful and smooth”. It also sets our expectation that Season 2 will not stray far from the journey that Season 1 took us on.
