Dressed from head to hip in black and a ‘billionaire’ tattoo on the left side of his neck playing peekaboo, Indeep Bakshi –– the 24-year-old bachelor boy behind the party blockbuster Saturday Saturday (Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania) –– met t2 in a room at The Park, minutes before his Desilicious partnered by t2 and presented by The Party People gig at Tantra, the day after Saturday!

Parties today are incomplete without Saturday Saturday. Did you ever think it would be such a big hit?

You know what, this song was just a tease for a friend in Delhi. I came up with it six years ago. I used to tease her saying, ‘Yaar tu always Saturday, Saturday karti hai.’ So, on her birthday I gifted her this track and played it at a club. The response was great. Basically, I feel most of the lyrics of the song are true. Ladkiyan, Sarojini (Nagar) ke kapde pehenti hai. Second, Saturday party karne jaati hai. I observed girls doing all this and I mentioned it in the track. People connected with it, making the song a huge hit.

Have you always wanted to be a singer? Can you define your music?

I was an architect by profession until the track (Saturday Saturday) happened. Fame followed and hence the change. After the track released, producers and directors started calling, asking me to make new songs. So singing, which was my passion, became my profession and the architect in me slowly moved away.... My type of music is totally urban Punjabi. Hindi, English and Punjabi mix with loads of energy... even if it’s a sad song. My songs are a mix of things that I have observed and a few personal experiences.

With so many Punjabi singers and rappers around, like Yo Yo Honey Singh, Badshah and Mika, do you feel any pressure to produce more hits? No, unki league alag hai. I don’t think there is any competition with them. Singing is my passion. If I consider Honey Singh and Badshah as competitors, then unka taste mere andar aa jane lagega and the creativity in me would die. My songs are totally different.

Your inspiration or role model?

I am not inspired by any Indian artiste. I just love Pitbull, Drake, Eminem and Usher. It’s more about hip hop. In fact, I don’t listen to Punjabi numbers, else I wouldn’t have been able to do a song like Saturday Saturday. These artistes have had an impact on my music; I have an urban touch in my songs because I listen to hip hop.

Bollywood plans?

I am giving them (producers) some songs. They give me ideas but I meet them with my songs. In fact, I was asked to change Saturday Saturday to a Hindi song but I said no because it would have killed the feel of the track.

Overrated songs?

Yaar mera superstar desi kalakar (Laughs). His (Yo Yo Honey Singh) Brown rang and Blue eyes were awesome, but I don’t like such lyrics, the singing pattern, the vocal texture he is using. I know I can become famous by using some vulgar words, but I don’t want to do that. I can use words like peena, sharab, daaru, ‘baby go wild’, but songs with double meanings are not my cup of tea.

Are you very influenced by the word ‘billionaire’? How many tattoos do you have?

(Gets up) I have four tattoos! Yahan, yahan(points to his back) yahan; you want to see? (Laughs) But on a serious note, I have started my music company called Billionaire which will launch new artistes.
