Shefaali Shah On Being Choosy, Juggling Many Roles In Life And Playing A Bored Housewife In Her Latest Film Pratim D. Gupta Is Shefaali Shah The Most Talented Supporting Actress In Bollywood? Tell T2@abp.in Published 30.05.11, 12:00 AM

Shefaali Shah doesn’t feature in husband Vipul Shah’s big mainstream movies like London Dreams and Action Replayy. But she is playing the lead in the small but smart Kucch Luv Jaisaa, produced by Vipul and directed by first-timer Barnali Ray Shukla. The film, about a housewife getting sucked into an adventure, also stars Rahul Bose. t2 quizzed Shefaali on the choices she makes.

How did Kucch Luv Jaisaa happen?

Barnali mailed me the script in one line and I completely loved it. We met the next day for a narration and I was on board instantly. It was as simple as that.

Since it’s produced by Vipul, was it awkward for you to play the lead?

No, I believed in the role and Barnali, my director, believed in me. Vipul had nothing to do with me playing the lead.

You play a bored housewife who gets involved in a thrilling adventure. How do you get into such a character, which has very little real reference?

It has complete real reference… I am a housewife, I am a homemaker, a mom, a daughter-in-law and in being all of these I, too, lose my identity. Just as a lot of other women do. We women get so busy in loving and caring for others that we forget to care for ourselves. And like a lot of women, I also want to break free at times.

You’ve worked with Rahul Bose before in 15 Park Avenue. How was it to work with him again?

Rahul and I have great chemistry, which translates on screen. We complement each other. We’ve both grown together as Raghav and Madhu (in Kucch Luv Jaisaa) and like Raghav and Madhu, we are both drastically different from each other, which works perfectly for the film.

Barnali is a first-time director. What was your experience with her?

Kucch Luv Jaisaa is Barnali’s story and she has narrated it beautifully. She has been incredibly brave to break my mould and cast me as Madhu, which means the world to me. I don’t think anyone else could have made this film as true as she has.

We see so little of you these days.... Why?

I am extremely selective about my work; every film I have done has proved it. I may not have even 15 films in my resume but the ones I have are all very special. This is the kind of work I want to do and if it means waiting for something special to come my way, I’ll wait.

Don’t you wish to be part of one of Vipul’s big commercial films?

Yes, but only if the role is fantastic. Otherwise no.

Any other film you have ‘selected’?

I am looking at a couple of scripts, let’s see what works out.
