They look like they’re bunking college but Siddhant Shah and Aakash Pandey, both 21, are actually at work, running their 20-seater cafe-cum-hookah bar at 17 Camac Street.
Called Revvv Up, the new hangout is a compact cafe located in a lane opposite Fort Knox and has a selection of snacky bites, cold and hot beverages and an array of hookah flavours.
With hookahs priced at Rs 180 per sitting (45 minutes) and a prime location like Camac Street, the partners are confident of a steady stream of college students and young professionals. While Siddhant, a third-year student of Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi, is sure of balancing his academic life with monthly trips to run the cafe, his partner Aakash, a student of Bhawanipur Gujarati Education Society College, will be calling the shots in his absence.
Revvv Up — yes, with three ‘v’s — is so named because the owners are also car fanatics and wanted a young hip-sounding name. In keeping with its trendy theme, small photo frames of cars and comic book characters line the walls and are up for sale, priced between Rs 175 and Rs 350. The tiny mezzanine is designed with bright cushions, rough textured walls and leather upholstery. Even the low ceiling beams are folded in leather to spare you that “ouch” moment.
Siddhant was inspired by snacks typical of Delhi’s North Campus while coming up with the menu. Take for example, the Mai Ka Lal nachos — the dip is prepared with American corn, salsa and mayonnaise, and served unusually but interestingly with Bingo chips (the partners promise to feature real nachos “soon”).
Another Revvv Up speciality is the Mixed Sauce Pasta, a concoction conceptualised by Siddhant, which is pasta cooked in red and white sauce and topped with olives, babycorn, American corn, capsicum and cheese. “I also keep Maggi on the menu since I’m used to seeing Maggi at almost every kiosk in North Campus,” says the youngster.
Variations like Cheese Maggi and Veg Maggi also find place on the menu, as do pop drink picks like Iced Tea. A meal for two would cost around Rs 300.
