Initially supposed to star together in the now-shelved Rana, Deepika and Rajini now romance in Kochadaiiyaan. During the shoot, Rajini reportedly asked Soundarya — the director of Kochadaiiyaan — to cut out some scenes that required him to get touchy-feely with his young heroine because he was too “embarrassed”. Most of us cringed while watching Sanjay Dutt, 54, romance 25-year-old Prachi Desai in the box-office dud Policegiri. Even Marathi actress Kishori Shahane Vij, who plays Prachi’s mom in Policegiri, is a good decade younger than Dutt!

Four years later, they came together again in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, where she falls for The Man Who Cannot Die, all bearded and brooding. Fresh from his break-up with Aishwarya Rai, Salman Khan spotted an Ash lookalike while dropping his sister Arpita to college one day. That resulted in the 2005 film Lucky — No Time for Love in which Salman played a man in his 20s romancing Sneha the schoolgirl in the cold climes of Russia. Stiff and awkward, the young heroine was no match for her exuberant co-star. Lucky sank at the box office and so did Sneha’s career.

She made quite an impression as the efferverscent do-gooder who makes Aamir’s business tycoon fall hopelessly in love with her in Ghajini. While Asin has moved on to equally old co-stars like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, Aamir has Anushka Sharma, even younger than Asin, to romance in Peekay.

When Jeetendra romanced Sridevi in Himmatwala 30 years ago, their age difference was 21 years. Who would have thought — when they were getting down and dirty, silky and sexy singing Ooh la la — that Naseeruddin Shah and Vidya Balan were born 28 years apart. The veteran actor, now 63, and the 35-year-old Vidya apparently had to spend a lot of time together between shots in order to get comfortable enough to shoot the film’s intimate scenes. “The age difference did not matter much with him. When you face an actor like Naseeruddin, he can make you believe in anything. You feel absolutely comfortable, I was not at all uncomfortable,” Vidya said afterwards.
