For reasons best known to them, hit jodi Jeet and Koel Mullick had parted ways despite the success of Swapan Saha’s Ghatak three years ago. Now, they have buried the hatchet and become friends again! This week, Jeet and Koel will be back on the sets for Sujit Guha’s untitled film that also stars Jisshu Sengupta.

Jeet tells t2 what makes him bond with Koel...

Have all differences been sorted out between you and Koel?

There’s nothing to be sorted out. We are all here to work and we are all professional people. I never had a problem with Koel. She is a good actress, very competent. Why should I have a problem working with her?

Then why didn’t we see you together for three years?

See, we don’t have a say on who will act opposite whom in a film. It’s entirely the director and producer’s prerogative. They decide the cast. I have no clue why nobody came up with a film casting us together. It could be that the directors and producers didn’t want us together for whatever reasons. Or, it could be that they had approached Koel and maybe she didn’t like her role or the script. Or, maybe there was a communication gap between me and Koel, and we were waiting for the right script. But, as I said, I never had any problems. I don’t have problems working opposite any heroine.

What is this new film all about?

Well, I can’t say much at this stage but it’s a love triangle revolving around Koel, Jisshu and me. I play a lover boy yet again. The script is very interesting, with a lot of twists and turns. We start shooting tomorrow and I am really looking forward to it! I am sure shooting will be good fun. I hope to have a great time with old friends like Koel and Jisshu!

Do you think Koel has grown as an actress in the past three years?

I have known Koel since the day she posed for her first photo shoot, just before her debut film Nater Guru. Though I haven’t watched any of her recent films, I have seen the posters and promos. I am sure she has grown as an actress. I have heard people saying that she is doing well and that she is being appreciated for her performances. She is a very good actress and a very good co-star.

You are sporting a new look for this film...

Yes, I am sporting a trendy hairdo for the film and I had gone to Mumbai for it. Kanta Motwani, who is Hrithik Roshan’s hairstylist, has styled my look. The day I was getting my haircut, Hrithik’s wife Susanne was also there in the salon.

I have a double role in the film for which I need to look very different, so I have also pierced my ears! Besides, I had picked up some formal shirts, denims and T-shirts from Mumbai, which I will wear in the film. Atreyee Basu is designing the clothes for my other role in the film.

What other films are you doing?

I am doing a film with Riingo, to be produced by Shree Venkatesh Films. It’s a love story combined with action. There’s a film each with Ashok Dhanuka and Biresh Chatterjee, two films with Shiboprosad Mukherjee and a deal of six films with Zee Motion Pictures.

Koel Mullick

Koel on teaming up with Jeet:

There have been several offers starring Jeet and me. But sometimes the dates didn’t match, sometimes the script wasn’t great. When Sujitkaku (Guha) offered me this film, I had time on hand as Babuda’s (Sandip Ray) film got postponed by a month. Besides, I have a very interesting role in the film. I play Chandni, who goes through several ups and downs in life. It’s a different kind of a film.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to catch any of Jeet’s recent films. I have known him since my first film Nater Guru. At that time he was a popular star though he was just a film old.... It feels great to be paired opposite both Jisshu and Jeet. The last film where I had two heroes was Premer Kahini. It was with Dev and Jisshu.

Director Sujit Guha on the Jeet-Koel casting coup:

Jeet and Koel were a successful pair and I am sure the audience want to see them together on screen again. Both Jeet and Koel agreed to do the film when I approached them, which is great! The film will do better with Jeet, Koel and Jisshu together.

Producer Pijush Saha on a Jeet-Koel film after three years:

We’ve got Jeet and Koel because they were a hit pair once and have not worked together for quite some time. It’s a big project for us. Jeet plays Akash, a famous singer, while Jisshu is Akash’s friend Neel. Koel is Chandni.
