SCREAMS FOR HAAGEN-DAZS ICE CREAM, NOW AT QUEST
What: Haagen-Dazs Cafe
Where: Quest mall, ground floor
When: Noon to 11pm
Pocket pinch: A single scoop is priced Rs 195-plus

A year ago, we had no Haagen-Dazs ice cream parlour in town. Now we have two!
After their first stop on Sarat Bose Road, Haagen-Dazs has made its presence felt at Quest mall, with a 40-seater cafe done up in their signature colours of red and black where you can sit and devour your ice cream or pick it up on the go.
Choose from flavours such as Blueberries & Cream, Vanilla Caramel Brownie and the newly introduced Tiramisu or if you want a true taste trip, select from their many creations, which are not only droolworthy but would also look great on Instagram.
“A brand like Haagen-Dazs must be forever progressive and evolving to be able to meet and exceed the expectations of customers. It is in continuous search for higher quality in order to deliver a truly exceptional experience to the guests. Quest mall is the perfect destination for the cafe because it gels well with the premium segment in terms of quality and offerings,” said Rajiv Singh, general manager, Global Kitchens, Calcutta.
Here are four of our favourite offerings from the Haagen-Dazs Cafe.

BLACK IS THE NEW BLACK
What: Stardust Vanilla gelato
Where: Mama Mia! (City Centre Salt Lake, City Centre New Town, New Alipore, Ballygunge and Quest outlets)
The scoop: Move over rainbow cakes and ice creams, flaunt your little black dress and jazz it up with a scoop of the Stardust Vanilla (Black Vanilla) gelato, the latest gift to the city’s frozen dessert lovers from Mama Mia!.
The colour: Yes, it’s black and no, they don’t use food colours. “Already a craze on social media in places like New York, this one is made of activated charcoal,” explained Adhiraj Thirani, a partner. And what exactly is this activated charcoal? It’s a form of edible, processed carbon that has minute pores to help increase its surface area, thereby increasing its adsorption ability. “Activated charcoal is known to cure hangovers and gastric issues. In some countries, it is apparently prescribed to patients of poisoning too!” added Akshat Singhania, the other partner.
The stardust: If you are wondering how it tastes, well the vanilla-flavoured gelato will create a funny feel on your palate as the activated charcoal bursts into your mouth, giving it a unique texture. Caution: Do not forget to drink water to clean your charcoal-black teeth!
Pocket pinch: The 96 per cent fat-free gelato falls under the ‘Premio’ category, each scoop (70g) of which costs Rs 89.
