So you love the Kolkata Knight Riders and cheer your lungs out at Eden. But are you KRRazy enough? That’s what the KKRazy Baari contest, presented by The Telegraph in association with 91.9 Friends FM, aimed to find out. Dedicated fan families sent in videos, photos and write-ups to qualify. From among hundreds of applications, 10 homes in and around Calcutta were shortlisted and a team from The Telegraph and Friends FM visited them on May 1 and 2 with quizzes, games and other activities.
While one house was decorated with purple and golden balloons, another had KKR flags hanging from the ceiling. Some had even arranged for a KKR-themed cake! The KRRazy-ness did not stop there. When asked to perform something for their favourite Knights, they danced and sang. But one KRRazy fan did it differently, dedicating a catwalk to the team. During KKRazy Quiz, most were stumped by ‘Who is the lyricist of the KKR team song?’ Answers ranged from Pritam to Anupam Roy, but the fanatics did get it right in the end — Kahaani maker Sujoy Ghosh.
All the winners were happy to get match tickets but the surprise element was a chance to participate in a lucky draw that would give some of them a dream-come-true opportunity to meet their Knights at ITC Sonar later this month, up close and KRRazy!
“KKR! KKR!” That is how The Telegraph-Friends FM team was welcomed by the bachcha party led by Debarghya Roy (first row extreme right) at Rail Vihar, the first stop on Day 1. Debarghya’s message for the Knights? “Bring back the cup!” said the Class VII student of South Point High School.
Participants at the second stop, Bhowanipore, tried their hand at ‘KKRazy Bouncing’, along with RJ Animesh of Friends FM (centre). KKR fanatic Debashish Chakraborty (right) has penned many slogans to pump up the Knights, like “Aided by confidence, KKR stands for excellence”.
At the fourth home, also on Ripon Street, KRRazy fans had fun doing the signature SRK pose. “I have not missed a single KKR match at the Eden Gardens since 2008,” said Shajeer Hasan (fourth from left), a student of Narula Institute of Technology.
The fifth and final stop on Day 1 was Deep Banerjee’s (left) home in Howrah. “I am sure the Knights will win this year as well,” said the Class XII student of Mahatma Aswini Dutta Vidyapith.
Day 2 started in Jadavpur. Heramba Chandra College student Debashis Naskar (second from left) said, “I am a fan of Manish Pandey. My message for the Knights is: If you can dream it, you can do it.”
Dressed in a gold bodycon and purple jacket, Molly Paul looked every stitch the KRRazy fan at stop seven, in FD Block, Salt Lake. Her daughter Aakangsha (inset) had a message for Pat Cummins. “It’s his birthday on May 8, so I would like to wish him a happy birthday,” said the Class XII student of DPS Newtown.
When asked about the craziest thing she’d done for KKR, she had quite the KKRazy story. “My mother and I were returning from Eden after a match. While crossing ITC Sonar, we impulsively booked a room and stayed overnight just to see the players.” Attagirls, we say!
Stop eight was New Town Action Area III. “Words cannot describe how much I love you,” was Rushali Kundu’s (sixth from left) message to her favourite Knight, Gautam Gambhir. The Class XII student of Shri Shikshayatan School has had her room painted in KKR colours.
At stop nine on Jessore Road, Sayantan Biswas (far left) has a special chair reserved for KKR matches. “I am very superstitious and every time there is a KKR match, I try not to move from that chair,” smiled the Techno India College student.
Stop 10 was in Chandni Chowk. “Korbo, lorbo, jeetboi,” was Arifur Rahman’s message for the Knights. The KRRazy fan who works in the insurance sector has not missed a single KKR game since the beginning of IPL in 2008.
Young participants at the third halt, on Ripon Street, show off the tickets and tees they won. Faisal Tanweer, a Class X student of St. Augustine’s Day School (extreme right) said, “Whenever I know the Knights are in town, I go and wait outside Eden to catch a glimpse of them.”
