Choreographer-turned-filmmaker Farah Khan Kunder is “itching” to direct again, but her next directorial venture won’t be the much-anticipated adaptation of Amitabh Bachchan classic Satte Pe Satta.

Known for films like Main Hoon Na, Tees Maar Khan and Om Shanti Om, Farah last directed the 2014 comedy Happy New Year starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan and Sonu Sood.

“I know (I’ve been away from direction). But hopefully, this year. Two years went by COVID. Before that, I was enjoying my life, watching my kids grow up, and travelling. But now I’m getting that itch again to make a film,” the 57-year-old filmmaker told reporters on the sidelines of the IIFA Weekend and Awards in Abu Dhabi.

For a long time, there has been talk of Farah directing the remake of the 1982 action comedy Satte Pe Satta, which also featured Hema Malini, Amjad Khan, Ranjeeta Kaur, Sachin, Shakti Kapoor, Paintal, Sudhir, Inderjeet, Sarika, Kanwaljit Singh, Prema Narayan, Mac Mohan and Kalpana Iyer.

Farah announced that she would be teaming up with Rohit Shetty for multiple projects which would be helmed by her and produced by Shetty. Satte Pe Satta was supposed to be their first collaboration.

The proposed adaptation had a lot of names tied to it, including Hrithik Roshan. Farah was later said to have offered the project to Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar.

When asked if the project she will return to direction with would be Satte Pe Satta, she said: “No. Not right now. That’s on the backburner”.

Farah made her directorial debut in 2004 with Main Hoon Na, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen and Suniel Shetty. She made her first film after spending more than a decade in Bollywood as a celebrated choreographer.

Farah and actor Aparshakti Khurana are hosting the IIFA Rocks 2022 on Friday, which will have performances by Devi Sri Prasad, Tanishk Bagchi, Guru Randhawa, Honey Singh, Neha Kakkar, Dhvani Bhanushali, Zahrah S. Khan, Dhvani Bhanushali and Asees Kaur.

The IIFA Awards 2022 will be held on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, in the Etihad Arena, which is part of the Yas Bay Waterfront, in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Miral.
