Eddie Murphy’s iconic cop Axel Foley goes on a mission to save his daughter from trouble in the trailer of Netflix’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, promising a rollercoaster ride in the fourth instalment of the cop comedy franchise.

Dropped by the streamer on Thursday, the two-minute-35-second-long trailer is a heady mix of action and buddy cop humour. Eddie’s Detroit cop teams up with a new partner, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. His old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) also feature prominently in the trailer.

In the trailer, we see Foley ending up in jail after he steals a helicopter to chase a crook. We also see him seeking Billy’s help to save his daughter from a threat. There are meta-moments in the film, not the least when Gordon-Levitt’s character informs Foley that Beverly Hills has changed since the cop first appeared in 1984’s Beverly Hills Cop.

The film’s director Mark Molloy recently said at a Netflix Tudum event that some of the funniest moments in Axel F happen because of Murphy’s improvisation.“Some of the funniest moments in Axel F are when Eddie's improvising. For me, a big part of my job was to create the right environment and cast the right people around Eddie to allow him to do what he does best.”

Produced by Murphy, Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman, who had also co-produced the first two films in the series, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is slated to release on Netflix on July 3.
