Manoj Michigan is doing a Madhur Bhandarkar. Manoj’s Hello Kolkata will be an up close and personal look at Calcutta’s corporate culture, just as Bhandarkar’s Corporate was of Mumbai’s.

Hello Kolkata has four parallel tracks. Amitabha and Swastika are a not-so-happy husband-wife, while Sudip and Sreelekha’s marriage is almost on the rocks. Arunima is happy with a BPO job, but her boyfriend Indrajit has his sights set on the US. Office problems get to Rudranil, whose wife Samapika bears the brunt of it all.

And who better to understand all this than an MBA, who was marketing boss of a corporate firm? “Though I worked in the corporate sector, I have always dreamt of making films. I want to explore how the professional and personal lives of people who are in the corporate sector affect each other,” says the 40-year-old Maharashtrian, born and brought up in Calcutta.

Manoj has done his homework before taking the plunge; he assisted Kantatar director Bappaditya Bandopadhyay for several years. Produced by Sandip Agarwal, Hello Kolkata goes on the floors in mid-March.
