AMITABH BACHCHAN

In the early 1980s — when Amitabh Bachchan’s superstardom had reached dizzying heights — the Angry Young Man found his comic book avatar in Supremo, the adventures of a superhero. In circulation for two years, Supremo found huge takers, with Gulzar pitching in as script consultant. Some of the comics were even published in 3-D!

ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER

Terminator star and now California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is getting his own comic book. The title? The Governator. To be scripted by legendary comic-book writer Stan Lee — the man behind a host of superheroes like Spiderman, Hulk and Iron-Man — The Governator will feature personal anecdotes from Arnie’s life. “(He) is going to be a great superhero, but he’ll also be Arnold Schwarzenegger. Only after he leaves the governor’s office, Arnold decides to become a crime fighter and builds a secret high-tech crime-fighting centre under his house in Brentwood,” reveals Lee.

LADY GAGA

Last year, Lady Gaga gave her fans some more reason to go gaga over her with the launch of her own comic book. The 42-page comic book traces the pop sensation’s rise from obscurity to fame and has colourful illustrations to highlight her eccentric — or outlandish, if you please — style of dressing. A series of sequels is on the cards.

ANGELINA JOLIE

From her humanitarian missions around the world to her romance with Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie’s life has recently been chronicled in a comic book. The latest in the Female Force series (which has also featured Oprah Winfrey and Sarah Palin), Jolie’s comic book focuses more on her charity and children and less on her screen roles or her blow-hot-blow-cold relationship with Brad Pitt. Having just hit the racks, the comic book is a hit already. Just look at Jolie’s, er, rack on the cover and you will know just why!

JUSTIN BIEBER

Something of a superhero to millions of fans across the globe, it was only a matter of time before 17-year-old pop sensation got his own pop pages for posterity. That happened in October 2010 when the Justin Bieber comic hit the stands. The 32-page biography of the Baby hitmaker tells the story of his childhood and rise to stardom. A sequel — “revealing all” about Bieber’s relationship with teen star Sele

MARK ZUCKERBERG

He’s had a film — The Social Network — based on his life and now Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has his own comic book. Mark Zuckerberg: Creator of Facebook is a 48-page giant-sized chronicle of the rise of the world’s youngest billionaire. According to its creator Jerome Maida, the comic book tries to give context to a complex figure, touching upon Zuckerberg’s humane side while highlighting his “harsh” business policies and “aloof” public persona.
