Veteran Hollywood actor Clancy Brown is set to play mob boss Salvatore Maroni in HBO Max’s upcoming Colin Farrell-headlined series The Penguin, according to entertainment magazine Variety.

The series is a spin-off of Matt Reeves’s 2022 film The Batman starring Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader. The eight-episode show will continue the story of the film.

Apart from Brown, the series will also feature Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Deirdre O’Connell in key roles. Lauren LeFranc is the writer, executive producer and showrunner of the series, while Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, and Craig Zobel serve as executive producers.

Emmy-nominated Mare of Easttown director Craig Zobel is reportedly going to helm the first two episodes of the series. Colin Farrell will reprise his role as Oswald ‘Oz’ Cobblepot a.k.a Penguin, who is Falcone’s chief lieutenant with aspirations of becoming a mob boss.

Clancy, who previously voiced supervillain Lex Luthor in DC animated projects, is also known for films and TV shows like The Shawshank Redemption, Highlander, Dexter: New Blood and Spongebob Squarepants. He will next be seen in Keanu Reeves’s action thriller film John Wick: Chapter 4.
