Rudranil Ghosh has vowed not to sign any new films before the release of Anindo Banerjee’s Chaplin. The reason? He thinks Chaplin will put him in a different league altogether.

“I’m pinning all my hopes on Chaplin. It’s a very important film in my career and I think I will be counted as one of the best actors in Tollywood after the film’s release!” says Rudra.

“In my 10-12 years in the industry, this is the first film where the focus is on me and obviously that means a lot to me. I watched the film while dubbing and I was touched. But, of course, as an actor I felt I could have been better. There’s always room for improvement,” he says.

In Chaplin — due for release in August — Rudranil plays Banshi Das, a father who dresses up like Charlie Chaplin and entertains people at birthday parties.

“Banshi and his son live in a shanty. The problem with Banshi is that he considers himself an artiste. The fact that he dresses up like Chaplin is a matter of pride for him. But most of the film is a father-son story, which is heart-rending. I hope people appreciate it because such films are not made every day and only a chosen few get to play such a challenging role,” he adds.

To slip into the character, Rudra watched Chaplin’s The Kid several times. “I watched the film to see Chaplin’s equation with the kid,” says Rudra, who is also looking forward to the release of Kamaleshwar Bhattacharya’s Uro Chithi, where he plays an event manager; Michael, co-starring Naseeruddin Shah; and Neel Mukhopadhyay’s directorial debut Satti Holeo Galpo.
