Question: What do you call a room full of women?

Answer: A ‘whine’ party!

Question: What do you call a reality show with 25 women closeted in a room?

Answer: Meethi Chhoorii No.1!

Come August and Imagine will get 25 leading ladies from the small screen into a new reality format that promises to take gossip, tantrums, sarcasm, cold-shouldering and catfights to a completely new level. “There are no points for being diplomatic on Meethi Chhoorii No.1. The cattier you are, the better your chances of doing well on the show. The women — all with their claws out — will get together and tell millions across the country what exactly they think of each other. If that means these women pulling out each other’s hair on national television, so be it,” laughs Nikhil Madhok, marketing and communication head, Imagine.

Adapted from Women Who Rank, a Turner format popular in Japan and Korea, Meethi Chhoorii No.1 will have ample doses of voyeurism and bitchiness. “After the Swayamvar series, many of our viewers have been writing in saying that they want a ‘masaledar’ reality show, something that both shocks and thrills at the same time. We think Meethi Chhoorii No.1 is one such show,” says Madhok.

Shweta Tiwari to Shveta Salve, Gauri Pradhan to Mona Wasu, Sakshi Tanwar to Ragini Khanna, taking a dig (and more!) at each other on Meethi Chhoorii No.1 will be some of the biggest names on Indian television. So was it easy convincing these women to be part of such a controversial show? “I am sure all these women know what each thinks of the other!” laughs Madhok. “They are sporting enough to know that this is all done in fun and zest and that no one bears any real malice,” he quickly adds.

Egging on these women will be the two hosts — television heartthrobs Shabbir Ahluwalia and Jay Bhanushali. “The hosts will be on the side of the audience and will pull out all the stops to instigate the participants to shed their garb of diplomacy,” says Madhok.

Intended for a two-month run, shooting for Meethi Chhoorii No.1 starts this week. But don’t men also gossip? “Men will invariably get into fisticuffs in under two minutes and that would mean too much violence on the show. Maybe that’s something we could try in season 2,” signs off Madhok.
