SNACK FLAK

SNACK FLAK

PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi faced backlash from the online community for saying how she was trying to devise ‘low crunch’ chips for women to eat in public. This gendering of a simple food item like chips has created a huge furore on Facebook, especially since Nooyi is a woman leader we all look up to. The t2 Campus team feels that as a role model to young girls, comments that might incite sexism, blatant or otherwise, must be checked by each and every public figure. #NoGenderingFood

WORD PROCESSOR

2018 is only in its second month and we already have a new Tharoorian word to learn — ‘troglodyte!’ Meaning caveman or a person who is deliberately old-fashioned or ignorant, the word was employed by Shashi Tharoor to call out politician Vinay Katyal on Twitter when he declared that Taj Mahal should be renamed ‘Tej Mandir’. Displaying his vastly versatile vocabulary, Tharoor tweeted: “We can’t let these troglodytes destroy our country & everything beautiful in it.” We can’t help but admire the panache with which Tharoor, our favourite ‘verbivore’, handled the absurd comment!

TAKING INSTA BY STORM

Kylie Jenner’s Instagram post of her newborn baby girl has broken Beyonce’s record for the most-liked post. We heart the adorable picture — as do over 16.6 million others — that the new mother posted of her tiny tot clasping her thumb with the caption, “stormi webster”. The baby’s unusual name has us scratching our heads but we’re just amazed at how Kylie managed to keep her pregnancy a secret for nine months!

SPIN-OFF SAGA

Strap in your lightsabers, Star Wars fans. Disney has announced the directors of a new series of Star Wars films and it’s none other than David Benioff and D.B. Weiss of Game of Thrones fame! The spin-off series will wrap up with 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX. Meanwhile, the first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story has been released and we can’t contain our excitement. Slated to hit cinemas on May 23, the film will feature a young Han Solo’s first meeting with his future co-pilot Chewbacca. We are all geared up to see #WhenHanMetChewie.

SPICE GIRLS REUNITED?

Since the launch of the Viva Forever! musical in 2012, we’ve been waiting for a Spice Girls reunion and our wish was seemingly granted when it was announced that all five of them are reuniting to explore new opportunities. But Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) later ruled out a world tour, although rumours are afloat that a few standalone shows might still happen. As we’re left wondering if we’ll get to see Posh, Ginger, Scary, Baby and Sporty set fire to the stage once again, we press play on some of their greatest hits like Wannabe, Say You’ll Be There and Spice Up Your Life.

COOL ROLE

Riverdale star Cole Sprouse has got the first movie break of his adult career and we couldn’t be happier. Our very favourite Jughead is all set to act in the romantic drama Five Feet Apart. The story is about a young couple falling in love while being treated for their illness. Sounds eerily like The Fault In Our Stars? Better grab our napkins already!

SUMMER SLAM

Barcelona frontman Luis Suarez could head to Chelsea in the summer if Luis Enrique replaces Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge. Enrique is said to be waiting for Conte to be fired after Chelsea’s poor performance lately and could eventually sign the 31-year-old Uruguayan, with whom he won two league titles and the Champions League among other honours at Camp Nou. Meanwhile, if the rumour mills are to be believed, Bayern Munich star Arturo Vidal could be shipped out at the end of the season with Manchester United and Chelsea the likely suitors at this point. #Hyped

DREAMY GIRL

Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee collaborated with Nilaya by Asian Paints yet again on Chapter II: India Revival Project, featuring muse and beauty Deepika Padukone looking like an absolute dream. The designs are inspired by the old north Calcutta lanes the ace designer is enamoured of. And damn if Deepika isn’t looking like the princess we know she is, in each shot! #LikeADream

SHIFTING GEARS

Formula 1 is all set to replace female models on the starting grid — ‘grid girls’ — with ‘grid kids’ this season, and we welcome this change! The kids will be picked on merit or by lot from among those competing in karting or junior categories, and many fans have tweeted that this was long due. After all, what better way to inspire the next generation of Formula 1 heroes? #Win

SHE’S ONE UP

Justin Timberlake may have won hearts — or broken them — with his Super Bowl half-time tribute to Prince, but it’s former lover Britney Spears who had the last laugh! The day after Justin’s performance received lukewarm reviews online, Britney shared on Twitter a picture of herself hiking with boyfriend Sam Asghari, captioning it: “I’ve been with this man for over a year... everyday he inspires me to be a better person and that makes me feel like the luckiest girl in the world!!” Us fans couldn’t help but spot the timing of the aww-worthy picture — after all, the feud between Justin and Britney is story for pop history, inspiring Justin’s hit Cry Me A River! We couldn’t be happier for the couple, but is this sweet revenge?! #Hmm

WONDER BOYS

India’s triumph in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand seemed inevitable. Prithvi Shaw and team, astutely coached by Rahul Dravid, maintained an unbeaten record throughout their three-week run, making this India’s fourth U-19 World Cup title. #SoProud
