BTS member Jungkook will begin “a new journey” with his mandatory military service in South Korea from December, the K-pop star revealed in a heartfelt note for his fans on social media on Wednesday.

“In December, I will start a new journey. I’m leaving you for a while to serve in the military,” the 26-year-old singer wrote in his note posted on Weverse and X.

Sharing his thoughts about not being able to cater to his fans — known as the ARMY — during the time he would serve in the military, Jungkook also mentioned, “As I share this news, I feel heavy on one hand and on the other hand, I’m reminded of the precious memories with ARMY. Every moment I’ve spent with you has been the brightest time of my life. ARMY’s laughter, support and love led me to this point.”

The 3D singer thanked the ARMY for their unwavering support throughout his career. “Thank you so much for supporting my dream and walking with me silently. I’m careful to tell you to wait for me while I’m in the military.”

“A year and a half is a long time, so I can’t say anything selfish. I promise I’ll be back on stage with a more mature side where I always am,” he stated.

Jungkook concluded his note by wishing his fans happy, healthy and prosperous lives. “I hope ARMY’s lives will always be full of laughter and happiness. I’ll miss you deeply while waiting for the day we meet again and talk about something new. Don’t get sick and stay healthy. I love you.”

The K-pop singer released his debut solo album Golden, featuring collaborations with Jack Harlow, DJ Snake and Major Lazeron, on November 2. The album contains 11 English songs including Standing Next to You, Yes or No, Hate You, Somebody, Too Sad to Dance and Shot Glass of Tears.
