Shahid Kapoor’s step-brother Ishaan Khattar has finally made his big screen debut this Friday with Majid Majidi’s Beyond the Clouds.
While the film has not quite set off the box office buzzing, the young actor is surely getting a lot of praise. Interestingly, like before release, a lot of chatter after release too is created by people comparing the two brothers. Without a doubt that a rather natural idea, but not to Ishaan’s protective father.
“It is foolish to compare Shahid and Ishaan. Shahid has made it on his own. So will Ishaan. He did not get a Majid Majidi film because he is Shahid Kapoor’s brother. Majid did not know who he is. Ishaan went through the auditions. For all you know, had Majid knew that Ishaan is Shahid’s brother it may have become a hindrance. His perception is very different,” said Rajesh Khattar, a well-known actor and father to Ishaan.
“Shahid is 15 years older to him (Ishaan) and has made his own position. And inshaallah, Ishaan will too. Ishaan looks up to Shahid. When Shahid started his career Ishaan was a child,” Khattar added. While that does sound reasonable, the comparisons are unlikely to die anytime soon. What also will be evoking interest is whether Ishaan could command stardom, like his brother does. Evidently the young lad has no such wishes!
“My son gave me that answer. He told me he is not seeking stardom. And no one can stop him from becoming an actor. Acting can happen in cinema, on television, on stage. So there is no fear. Plus he is very young and you cannot put any burden on him. He is already carrying the burden of expectations… All I know is, my son is around to stay,” said Khattar.
Sure enough Ishaan will soon be seen in Dharma Production’s much-touted remake of the Marathi hit Sairat. “He has been extremely lucky to start with Karan Johar and Majid Majidi. And none of them have come to him because of where he is coming from. It is his own doing. Karan needed someone who looked the part and saw Ishaan somewhere on social media and asked him to meet,” said Khattar.
