Apart from the cat-and-mouse chase between two cops and a criminal that takes centre stage in Srijit Mukherji’s Dawshown Awbotaar, the sizzling romance between the characters played by Anirban Bhattacharya and Jaya Ahsan has also grabbed a lot of attention. We spoke to the actor duo about how they created this screen chemistry and their collaboration as co-actors over the years.

What is it like to see Dawshom Awbotaar being appreciated by people?

Anirban Bhattacharya: It feels amazing because a Durga Puja release always brings extra charm to our life. On top of that, people are loving the film. Dawshom Awbotaar has proven to be a ground-breaking success and I am immensely grateful to be a part of this journey.

Jaya Ahsan: While working on the film, I could sense that it would get a great response. This is because of the strong script, with one of the cult characters coming back.

Your chemistry in the film has been the talk of the town. How did you create this?

Anirban Bhattacharya: When an actor and an actress pair up, it is their job to establish the relationship on screen with utmost dedication. It is my responsibility to establish this chemistry with my co-star. I am sure people who have watched me and Jaya in Dawshom Awbotaar have seen the different shades in our characters.

Jaya Ahsan: It’s true that our kissing scene has become the talk of the town. If the story and the characters demand that, it’s our responsibility to do it. But more than our chemistry, I feel people are loving the relationship between Probir Roy Chowdhury (played by Prosenjit) and Bijoy Poddar (played by Anirban).

You both have collaborated with Srijit before. How was it working with him again for Dawshom Awbotaar?

Anirban Bhattacharya: Yes. Both Jaya and I were there in Ek Je Chilo Raja but in completely different story tracks. I have worked with Srijit continuously since 2017. It has been six years. Dawshom Awbotaar is my ninth collaboration with him. I never got a chance to notice Srijit Mukherji’s evolution as a director and an individual as I have been working with him constantly. But the spirit is always the same — the spirit to make good cinema, good music, good dialogues and good scenes.

Jaya Ahsan: Srijit is an incredibly talented director who thinks and makes films on a grand scale. I love the fact that he meticulously handles the production of every film.

What are your memories of Baishe Srabon?

Anirban Bhattacharya: I remember watching Baishe Srabon in Navina cinema hall and being completely moved by it. I was a college pass-out then. When I first got the offer to play a character in Dwitiyo Purush, I felt blessed. And when I became a part of Dawshom Awbotaar, it was sheer bliss for me.

Jaya Ahsan: I feel Baishe Srabon is Srijit’s best film. I love Chotuskone and Autograph too.

What drew you both to Dawshom Awbotaar?

Anirban Bhattacharya: The dialogues, the emotions and the fate of human beings as shown in the film.

Jaya Ahsan: I was drawn to the character I played. She is a very strong woman. Being able to portray a character that has a lot of strength is a blessing.

You both have worked together in Arindam Sil’s film Eagoler Chokh. How has your relationship as co-stars evolved over the years?

Anirban Bhattacharya: We have also worked together in the Hoichoi series Paanch Phoron. Eagoler Chokh was one of my initial films. I was new to films and Jaya was already an established actor. Since Paanch Phoron, our bond as co-stars has grown stronger. With Dawshom Awbotaar, we have explored more and given our best.

Jaya Ahsan: When we did Eagoler Chokh, I didn’t know Anirban well. I played his wife. Over the years, our relationship as co-actors has evolved. I have keenly observed Anirban’s cinematic journey and his evolution is indeed commendable. Collaborating with him on a film is an unparalleled experience.
