I don’t believe in rules and the last thing I’d like to have rule-bound is my weekend. I love spending as much time as possible with my family on Saturdays and Sundays. My wife, Radhika and I have a three-and-a-half-year-old son, Aaryan, and our daughter Kannaki is all of six months now. But I must say I am an extremely bad father and husband, at least by my standards. I get so involved with work that I do not spend as much time as I should with my family. I’m mostly at the studio when I should be at home with the kids.
Various exhibitions and events take up quite a large part of my weekend — particularly the evenings. I have some very good friends who work in fashion, theatre, architecture and different forms of visual arts. I love catching up with them and getting a feel of what’s happening in these various fields. Hanging out with people from the creative arts is one of the nicer aspects of a typical weekend for me.
Once in a while, we also go to Baroda where I have a small flat. Though I absolutely love going there, such visits are few and far between. I love spending time with Radhika and the kids if I’m at home. And good food features in a big way during our weekends. My wife is a very good cook. Though I can’t cook much, I usually try to compensate by making tea on Sunday mornings for Radhika. I try to keep the day reserved for family and occasionally work. Even if we do have to go out, we go out in the evening. But even then, I get to spend nowhere near as much time as I’d like to spend with the family.
