Haimanti Sukla - Singer Addas With Family And Friends AS TOLD TO SREERADHA D. BASU Published 02.07.05, 12:00 AM

The Saturdays when I don?t have a programme lined up are few and far between, but despite that, I make sure that besides music, which I love, I also have my share of fun and frolic over the weekend. I?m not married, so my brothers, sisters, their kids and of course, my friends are all part of one big happy family. And over weekends, my time is spent catching up with them and indulging in some good old-fashioned adda.

On Friday night, my nieces and nephews come over, for they know that come Saturday evening, I?ll be busy with shows. Young as they are, they happen to be great friends of mine, and I enjoy chatting with them, and catching up on what?s happening in their lives.

After the hectic Saturdays, Sunday mornings are a time to just loll around in bed and laze till as late as possible. I do have shows on Sunday evenings as well, but on the days I have the evenings to myself, it?s time once again for adda with family and friends. I have a lot of friends from the music fraternity including Srikanto Acharya, Nachiketa, Rashid Khan, Kumar Bose and his brother Tony and as might be expected, the topic of discussion naturally veers towards music. It?s more like a cultural exchange actually, where we spends hours talking about music, listening to it and even singing for each other. Food figures high on the list during these sessions, but more for them than for me. I?m not really one for dining out, but my friends insist and together, we could land up anywhere from Sonar Bangla and Taj Bengal to even tiny dhabas. But like I said, for me, it?s more about keeping them company than eating, for I inevitably ensure that my maid leaves alu-bhaat out for me, which I make a meal of before going to bed!

I also enjoy watching movies and there?s no better time for this than on weekends. Cleaning up figures high on my agenda as well, and moving things around to give my house a brand-new look is also something I do every now and then. But like I said before, time with family and friends is what gets top priority over my weekends.
