Eyes of a mermaid

This Spring-Summer, the eyes have it. Every once in a while, a fashion trend emerges that refuses to go away. One such seems to have just come up.

This Spring-Summer, the eyes have it. Every once in a while, a fashion trend emerges that refuses to go away. One such seems to have just come up.

Tadashi Shoji got more noticed for the mermaid eyes he gave his models this spring than his outfits, perhaps. Called a “show-stopper”, his look had the models sporting glowing, aqua-tinted eyes, created by lining the bottom lash line with turquoise eyeliner.

Aqua eyes were everywhere. From the US-based Japanese Shoji, known for his gowns and red carpet dresses, to
the Italian luxury fashion label Marni to Chanel, aqua-tinted eyeshadow coloured all runways. If Shoji was the most dramatic, others were not far behind. Techniques varied, as did the shades: some eyes were electric blue, some cobalt, some sea-green. Some eyelids were tinted blue in full; some were just lined.

Some tips on wearing blue on your eyes:

1. Don’t forget to apply a primer on your eyelids.

2. Apply the eyeshadow by gently dabbing your eyelid with your brush. It ensures the highest intensity of colour.

3. For  the Tadashi Shoji look, apply turquoise eyeliner up along the lower lashline for an intense kick of colour. Apply blue eyeshadow below, subtly, along the lashline, and smudge it.
