Bridgette Jones Has The Most Effective Make-up Tricks Up Her Sleeve Published 10.04.11, 12:00 AM

I regularly visit my skin expert Nina Madnani. She is the one who ensures that I always have glowing, healthy skin. I make sure that I stick by her recommended products and only use them to get the best results. Apart from this, on a normal day, I use very light make-up. I prefer to keep things simple with a light sun screen and some lip balm by Kiehl’s. Also, since I colour my hair quite often, I use a Kerastase shampoo so that my hair is well protected. A Kerastase hair pack and Chroma Thermique hair conditioner finishes off the hair care routine and keeps my hair healthy and voluminous.

I am 24. I have shoulder length, dark brown, straight hair. I am quite fair. However, my hair is greying prematurely. I would like to colour it. Please suggest a colour that would suit me. It has to be a versatile colour as I tan quite a bit in summers. I am completely confused.

Hair colourants have never been technically better; nowadays it is a simple matter to add a temporary tone and gloss to the hair or make a more permanent change. And there is a wide variety of colouring products to choose from. Here are a few methods that you can use to colour your premature grey hair:

Paint colour just on the new grey hair. This method is good for those who have just a few grey hair and is also good for the first step into hair colouring. Use a permanent hair colour that matches your natural colour and brush the colour onto the grey hair only. You will have to do a retouch in four to six weeks. Use a colour marker or stick on your grey hair. This will temporarily blend it in. Simply brush the product onto the greys. It will wash out when your hair is shampooed. You can also use a semi-permanent colour that will last for six to eight weeks. They can only enrich or darken hair, they cannot make it any lighter. The colour fades gradually and is ideal for those who want to experiment but don’t want to commit themselves to a more permanent change and are perfect for blending in the first few grey hair.

Tip: It is recommended that you consult a good hairdresser when you get your hair coloured for the first time. A good hairdresser will tell you exactly what you need, and they will have the required skills as well. Always follow up with a shampoo and conditioner for colour treated hair to preserve your colour. Other shampoos will make the colour fade faster.

TOP tip

For a salon style deep conditioning, apply a deep conditioning treatment mask to damp hair. Either wrap up your hair with a plastic wrap or put on a shower cap. Then wrap a heated towel around your head and leave it on for around 15 minutes. The heat will help the conditioner penetrate deep into the hair.
