The V6 engine on the new Honda Accord comes with technologies that virtually give you three engines in one car

The V6 engine on the recently launched Honda Accord V6 comes with a host of technologies. The engine equipped with i-Vtec system also comes with VCM (Variable Cylinder management) technology. With its flexible use of cylinders, the unique VCM technology virtually gives you three engines in one car.

During start-up, accelerating or heading uphill, it will fire all six cylinders to give you the maximum power. Once you’ve reached cruising speed, it would automatically drop down to four cylinders, or even three, if it is an easy cruise. This maximises both performance and fuel economy.

To achieve the same quietness and smoothness, as when running on all six cylinders, new Active Control Engine Mounts (ACM) and Active Noise Control (ANC) systems have been designed to complement the VCM technology. The ACM cancels out engine vibration, ensuring a smoother, more comfortable ride. You can enjoy a silent ride with the ANC, which nullifies unwanted noise by generating out-of-phase sound waves, that may occur due to the harmonics of cylinder operation.

This engine system was first introduced in the Honda Odyssey in 2005 and it did improve performance and economy marginally.
