New Delhi, April 5: S. Gopalakrishnan, the co-founder and executive co-chairman of Infosys Technologies, has been elected as the president of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for 2013-14.
Gopalakrishnan, popularly known as Kris, will succeed Godrej Group chairman Adi Godrej. Gopalakrishnan, N.R. Narayana Murthy and five others had founded Infosys in 1981. He was also the director (technical) and his initial responsibilities included the management of design, development, implementation and support of information systems for clients in the consumer products industry in the US.
Ajay S. Shriram, chairman and senior managing director of DCM Shriram Consolidated Ltd (DSCL), is CII’s president-designate for 2013-14. DSCL has a group turnover of approximately Rs 5,000 crore. The company manufactures PVC compound and resin for automotive, footware and agricultural applications.
Sumit Mazumdar, vice- chairman and managing director of Tractors India Private Ltd (TIL), has been elected as the vice-president of the industry association. TIL is a distributor of Caterpillar — the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment — in India, Nepal and Bhutan.
Mazumdar has been a member of the various committees and councils of the CII national council and has also served as a trustee of the Calcutta Port Trust.
