Patna: The India region of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association has resolved to conduct zonal regional seminars and conferences for legislators to interact with each regularly across the country.
Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, who also heads the India region of the association, shared this with reporters on the concluding day of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association conference in Patna on Sunday.
For the regional seminars and conferences, the Indian states have been divided into four zones. Bihar is in a zone with Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Bengal.
Mahajan said: "We resolved that like the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association India region, which meets once every two years, we should have regions within the country to organise conferences. So, four zones have been created."
She said suggestion for discussions in the state legislatures on the pattern of special debates in Parliament on sustainable development goals was also put forth. "Bihar Assembly Speaker Vijay Chaudhary informed me that this would be done during the upcoming budget session in the state legislature and dates for the discussion had been finalised too," Mahajan said.
Governor Satya Pal Malik delivered the valedictory address at the conclusion of the India region of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association conference.
A conference of legislators would be organised in Delhi on March 10 and 11, Mahajan said. Ideas on development issues would be deliberated at the March programme and participants would also be requested to share some of the best practices from their regions. From Bihar, nine legislators - six MLAs and three MLCs - will go.
