Patna: The Bihar State Women's Commission has taken cognisance of an audio clip in which a deputy superintendent of police rank officer is allegedly heard asking a girl for sexual favours.
The commission has demanded the state police conduct a probe so that the victim gets justice. The commission will meet director-general of police (DGP) Krishna Swaroop Dwivedi over its demand.
"The matter is serious as such type of incidents not only brings a bad name to the state government and police but it also affects the confidence of the common man towards police," said commission member Usha Vidyarthi. "A delegation of the state women's commission will meet DGP Dwivedi demanding a detailed investigation in the case. At the same time, the commission will conduct its own independent investigation."
Vidyarthi said they would also request the DGP to conduct a special training session for junior-level cops on how to talk to women who approach the police station to register a complaint.
Police sources said that the audio clip is at least a month old. A girl in her early 20s had approached the DSP in question after her parents faced some problems and the police did not lodge her complaint.
The girl recorded the conversation as evidence.
The audio clip is around 90 seconds long.
The deputy superintendent of police is allegedly heard in the audio clip seeking "favours" from the girl. The man;s voice also agrees to fulfil her demands, if any.
The Telegraph has not verified the authenticity of the audio clip.
The state police headquarters on Sunday had ordered an investigation after the clip went viral on social networking sites since Saturday.
Additional director-general of police (headquarters) S.K. Singhal on Sunday ordered the investigation asking deputy inspector-general, central range, Rajesh Kumar to conduct a probe.
Rajesh received the letter for the probe on Monday.
He said: "I received the letter from the police headquarters to carry out an investigation in the case. The police will go through all possible angles such as FSL (forensic) test of the audio clip and also talk to the victim so that the truth comes to the fore."
