Patna: It's time to pack your woollens.

Not all, but you can get rid of a majority of the extra cover for now as the temperature level in Patna and other parts of the state is expected to maintain a rising trend.

The maximum temperature may touch or even cross the 30°C mark by the month-end. "There is no significant weather system visible at present which could reverse the weather condition all of a sudden. Hence, possibility of cold condition coming back is not there," Patna Met office meteorologist Sandeep Kumar said on Monday.

He said the temperature was likely to hover around the normal or above the normal level in the coming week. "Residents should not be surprised if the maximum temperature touches the 30°C mark or even crosses it by the month-end," Sandeep added.

The normal maximum temperature for the remaining days of the month is around 28°C whereas the normal for the minimum is around 13°C. Regarding the prevailing wind, Sandeep said the westerly would continue to blow during the period and its speed would be around 5 to 8 km per hour.

On chances of cloud formation over Patna and other parts of the state, the meteorologist said once the temperature level rises, convective activities start in the atmosphere but chances of cloud or mist formation will depend on the available moisture in the local climate. "If easterlies start blowing, they will bring moisture and the convective activity would lead to cloud or mist formation. But chances of any reversal in the wind direction is not visible for now and hence the weather would remain more or less clear in the coming few days," he said.

Doctors had a word of caution. "The diurnal variation in temperature leads to conducive condition for virus. Aged people and kids are susceptible to viral infection. Hence special care should be taken," Dr Diwakar Tejashwi said.

He added that people should carry a light woollen garment with them and should put it on in the morning and evening hours when temperature level is low in comparison to the daytime.

The physician also advised residents against using fans or air-conditioners at night and maintained that it might lead to cough and cold.
