A constable of Kankerbagh police station has been suspended and departmental proceedings were initiated against him on Wednesday for harassing a girl at Buddha Smriti Park recently.

“We decided to initiate action against him as soon as his identity was ascertained,” senior superintendent of police Jitendra Rana said.

The girl’s friend sent the policeman’s photograph to Rana over WhatsApp on Monday.

“The policeman may lose his job if the allegations are found true during the departmental proceedings. In most cases, heavy fines are imposed and the offenders are deprived of salary increments,” a senior police officer said.
