Patna, Feb. 27: A district jail in industrial city of Begusarai has decided to launch its official website. Once it is done, the jail would be the second after Delhi’s Tihar Jail to have an official website.

All information regarding prisoners and also the district jail would be a matter of just a click. A click at the website —www.begusaraibih.nic.in — would guide one to the details of the inmates and other relevant information about the jail.

“Begusarai jail is the first prison in the state to upload the data of prisoners on its website,” superintendent of the jail, Neeraj Kumar Jha, said. He added it would help relatives of the inmates to get updated information about both the convicts as well as the undertrials.

What is more interesting is that the information about educational qualification of the prisoners would also be available on the website. In addition, the criminal antecedents of the prisoners have also been put on record to help the minions of law, he said.

“The website would also give information about the cultural and sports activities going on inside the prison from time to time. The person responsible for monitoring the website has been asked to upload information about the welfare schemes carried out in the prison,” the jail superintendent said.

He said the information about the existing strength of the jail would also be available on the website. “The mobile numbers and photographs of the employees have been provided to the authorities concerned for uploading the data on the website,” Jha said.

He added at present 1,167 male and 30 female prisoners were lodged in the district jail. “The process of uploading data is almost complete and will be made public within the next few days,” he said.

The jail superintendent said cultural and sports activities are organised in the jail from time to time to create a light atmosphere inside the prison. “At times, even yoga classes are also organised for the prisoners to make them mentally and spiritually sound,” he added.

The prison department had launched its website ig-prisons-bih@nic.in last year at the initiative of inspector-general (prison) Ramesh Lal. He recently visited the Purnea divisional jail to make the spot assessment of the medical facilities available for the jail inmates.
