Motihari, Feb. 7: The prime accused in the Ramgarhwa fuel station loot case, who was evading arrest for over a month, was arrested by Motihari police in Delhi and brought here today.
The accused, Awadhesh Singh Dhamaka Baba alias Engineer Sahab alias Bhagat ji with 10 other accomplices had looted Rs 17.3 lakh from the manager of a petrol pump Jagdish Mishra while he was on his way to deposit the money at a local branch of the State Bank of India on January 27 this year.
The police from Prajapath colony under Uttam Nagar locality of Delhi arrested Awadhesh Singh, a few days back.
After producing him in the Tees Hazari court he has been brought here on transit remand, said superintendent of police (SP) of East Champaran, Paras Nath.
Briefing about the confessional statement of the accused, the SP said Awadhesh Singh with his accomplices had stayed for many days in a rented house at Adapur and succeeded in his mission on the third attempt.
One Ranjan Upadhyaya of Majhaulia in the neighbouring West Champaran district had also stayed with him at Adapur and the loot was planned at Raxaul, the SP said.
The accused is also wanted by the Delhi police, Gopalganj, Sheohar and Ramgarhwa police in about seven cases.
He was a resident of Chailaha Bisunpur under Piprarhi police station area of Sheohar district.
One of the other accused Tanjeem is a resident of a village in Mirjapur district in Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested in an injured state, this is the second arrest in the case.
