Purnea, April 20: For the villagers of Purnea, the wish to see the village illuminated may remain a distant dream.
Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) had provided receipts to the villagers of Dharhar Jamunia under Mogalia Poranda purv panchayat of Dhamdaha sub-division in Purnea for electricity connection in 2004 but even now the village has not received electricity.
The department had taken Rs 320 for new connections from the consumers in 2004. The consumers had approached the local MLA and MP but in vain.
The department could not even bring power in the village under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme since 2004.
Binod Kumar Gupta, a resident of the village told The Telegraph he was tired of visiting the offices concerned.
Superintending engineer of BSEB Virendra Prasad said: “We have many consumers who had paid money for the power connection from 1999 but they have not been provided connection because of non-electrified villages. BSEB would certainly provide interest of four per cent over deposit money to each consumer who had paid money for new connection since the date of receipt.”
Prasad said according to Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyut Yojana, a survey for non-electrified villages across the state was being conducted by Medhaj Agency that would submit its report by May 31.
He added after getting the detailed project report, all villages would be electrified and all consumers would be provided electricity before December 31, 2012.”
