Patna, May 3: Patna University (PU) teachers, who have not been promoted since 2003, here is some good news. PU has constituted a committee to look into the grievances of such teachers.

The committee, headed by K.N. Paswan, a geography department teacher, comprises Muniba Sami, a teacher of the PG English department, Randhir Kumar Singh of Patna College and others.

The committee will look into the grievances of such teachers.

The appointment of around 93 teachers in PU, who were appointed in 2003, was questioned because of gross irregularities in them. University Service Commission had appointed the teachers.

The university had ordered a vigilance probe based on the charges of irregularities in appointment.

The committees will scrutinise the appointment of such teachers before sending the report to the screening committee, which will have a nominee from the state government and the chancellor’s office.

Moreover, after the screening committee, the matter will be referred to selection committee, which will also have a member each from the state government and the governor’s office. In 2003, University Service Commission appointed 1,050 teachers, of which 93 appointments were made in PU.

Dr Suheli, a teacher from Magadh Mahila College, said: “We have been waiting for our promotion since long, it is good news that now the university has taken the initiative.”

Dr Suheli further said according to University Grants Commission guidelines, the promotion of teachers, who are PhD holders, should have been done in 2007 itself, while promotion to the non-PhD holders was to be completed in 2008 itself, but it took so many years. The teachers, who were appointed in 2003, were confirmed only in 2008 after the clearance of the vigilance inquiry.
