Gaya: There is no unanimity on the draft deal drawn up between Magadh University and its offshoot Pataliputra University over asset-liability division.

Sources said some provisions of the draft prepared by Magadh University officials has not found favour with Pataliputra University officials.

The reported hardening of stands by officials of the two varsities appears to be irreconcilable and might require intervention either by Raj Bhavan or the government or both, say sources in the education department. The bone of contention relates to division of employees, funds and ownership of vehicles owned by Magadh University.

Nobody was willing to come on record but sources said Pataliputra University has outrightly rejected the apportionment formula offered by the parent university.

As per the Magadh University formula, employees who are to retire in the next one year and those having serious health issues - numbering around 100 - are to be retained by the parent university. Of the remaining around 400 employees, 73 per cent would be shifted to Pataliputra University. Grade 2,3,4,6,7 and 8 staff were to be shifted to Pataliputra. Sources said Pataliputra University wanted to cherry-pick employees, but Magadh University preferred a structured formula.

Magadh University authorities reportedly offered an alternative formula under which employees would be given the option of joining Pataliputra University. In case enough employees did not opt for the new university, the remaining staff would be chosen from the gradation list under some formula. Magadh University also agreed to transfer Rs 5 crore as seed money for the new university in two instalments.

Rs 2 crore was to be transferred immediately and Rs 3 crore. But Pataliputra University is eying funds of the exam and distance education department. The parent university has also agreed to spare two vehicles for the new university. But Pataliputra University has a fancy for top model vehicles, which, Magadh University authorities are reportedly reluctant to party with.

Magadh University vice-chancellor Prof Qamar Ahsan said the MoU would be made public once it is signed and declined to say anything until then.
