The state police headquarters has upgraded seven police stations in the district to improve the law and order situation.
The new upgraded police stations — Sadar, Ahiyapur, Bela, Minapur, Kanti, Motipur and University — will have inspector-rank officers.
Around 13 inspectors will be deputed in these upgraded police stations.
Till the time the appointments are made, senior sub-inspectors will be deputed. These police stations were previously controlled by sub-inspector-rank officers.
The move came because of difficulties faced by the police in handling law and order situation in the district. Senior superintendent of police Saurav Kumar said the strength of these police stations would be increased with the appointment of more personnel.
There are 28 police stations and eight outposts in the district. Of the 28 police stations, around 13 of them have been upgraded.
Some of the other upgraded ones are Town police station, Berhampura, Kazi Mohammadpur and Mithanpura police stations.
Following a review meet with his juniors, Saurav has sent a proposal to set up six more police stations to maintain law and order as well as fight the Maoists.
Saurav said after a spurt in the activities of rebels, two police stations would be established at Sanichra village and Rampur Hari in Minapur. Other Maoists-hit villages — Jajuwar under Katra block, Shahpur in Kudhani block, Jafarpur in Paroo and Daudpur in Sahebganj — will also have one police station each.
Saurav said central forces would also be deputed in these areas to help the cops.
Saurav said the police in the district are divided into two groups — to maintain law and order and to investigate cases.
“Since the scientific mode of investigation has been introduced to probe cases, it requires conclusive results. Experienced cops would be deputed to investigate sensational cases,” Saurav said.
