Patna: Dignitaries, including some Union and state ministers, preferred to keep themselves away from a function to commemorate the sixth death anniversary of erstwhile Ranvir Sena chief Brahmeshwar Nath Singh, popularly called Brahmeshwar Mukhiya, at Khopira village under the Agiaon block in Bhojpur district on Friday.
Instead of the VIPs, scores of leaders of peasants' organisations from Bhojpur, Arwal, Jehanabad, Buxar, Auragabad, Gaya and Rohtas districts took part in the function.
A life-size statue of the former Ranvir Sena chief Mukhiya was unveiled by his wife Kalawati Devi on the occasion. The function was presided over by Tapti Singh of Gaya district.
Earlier, several Union and state ministers and legislators had given their consent to grace the occasion.
"We had sent invitations to half a dozen Union and state ministers besides the MLAs and MPs and they had given their consent to be present at the function. But they couldn't oblige us for the reason best known to them," said Chandan Singh, a close relative of Mukhiya.
The slain Mukhiya's eldest son Indu Bhushan Singh expressed his displeasure over the CBI's failure to make any headway in the murder case. He alleged that the investigating agency was working under pressure as nothing had been done so far in the case to instil confidence among family members that the offenders would be punished.
"Mukhiya ji's murder hints at a well-knit political conspiracy," Indu Bhushan told the gathering.
"But both the state and the central governments have not show any interest to get perpetrators of the crime punished. He (Mukhiya ji) always fought for the cause of farmers and the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Kisan Sangathan will leave no stone unturned to fulfil his dream.
Other speakers, such Awadhesh Singh, Siddhnath Singh and Chandan Kumar said the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Kisan Sangathan (ABRKS) would work for the unity of the farming community.
"The strategy to make the organisation stronger was also chalked out at the meeting convened on Friday," Indu Bhushan said.
