Barely 24 hours after police announced to deploy additional personnel and installed video cameras at some strategic locations to check the “Blade Man” menace, three more teenagers suffered slash injuries in Patna City on Monday.

The first incident occurred around 12noon when 18-year-old Kanchan Kumari, a resident of Pirdamaria under Malsalami police station, had gone out of her home with her two sisters for some work. “I was trying to cross a road when a man, wearing a white shirt, walked next to me. I did not look at him. We had crossed the road and walked for about 10 minutes when I felt a sharp pain in my arm,” Kanchan told The Telegraph.

The second incident took place in the Sadiqpur area under Alamganj police station around 2pm. Eighteen-year-old Pooja Kumari, a resident of Durga Charan Lane, was out shopping when she was attacked. The girl, who was taken to a private hospital, said she had not noticed anybody passing by.

The third victim was identified as Mohammed Ishaan, an 18-year-old resident of Khan Gali area under Sultanganj police station. He had left home around 2pm on a bicycle to deliver food to his brother at the latter’s shop on Tekari Road. Ishaan added that he noticed the wound on his left arm only when he returned home. The three attacks took place despite the police’s announcement that an additional 100 personnel in the rank of sub-inspectors were deployed in the affected areas of Patna City.

The group included at least 20 women constables, who were deployed in areas such as Noon ka Chauraha, Sadar Gali, Lodhi Katra and Loha ka Pul. Besides, the police had also said hidden closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) would be installed at various locations.

An officer at the Khajekala police station, however, told The Telegraph that “handycams”, and not CCTV cameras, had been installed in different locations.

“We would not disclose where these cameras have been installed for obvious reasons,” the officer added.

The Telegraph, however, located one camera installed on the first floor of a building in the Noon ka Chauraha area under Khajekala police station. “The camera is on the recording mode and there is a handler as well. But at the moment, he is not there because of the heat. The camera will record all incidents on the road. The police are paying some money to the camera owners,” a source said.

Residents, however, said the police action was a bit late. “We are not sure if they are recording the incidents properly. But then today’s incidents have taken place in other police station areas. Earlier, the Khajekala police station was a target and the plan, if launched sometime ago, could have averted some attacks,” said Wasim Haider, a resident.
